What is Foo Bar? And are they open late?

Foo Bar is neither a bar nor a restaurant. Nor should it be confused with F.U.B.A.R. (F*d Up Beyond All Repair).  Rather it is a placeholder name for computer programmers and seems to have been around forever.  A metasyntactic variable (a triple word score Scrabble word if ever there was one) the term

The Semantic Web – Prove It to Yourself in 5 Minutes

If the semantic web is the web that talks to itself, then it’s important that everyone speak a common language, a language of “standards.” Under development by volunteer groups around the world these standards” describe the name and translation of  data.  They include:

Resource Description Framework (RDF)
Web Ontology Language (OWL)
Gleaning Resource Descriptions from Dialects of Languages (GRDDL)

What is the semantic web? Why do I want it?

“Semantic web” is a term you hear more and more about these days. But what does it mean? Why should you care? And what has it done for you lately? The official definition is:

“The Semantic Web provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries. It is a collaborative effort led by W3C with participation from a large number of researchers and industrial partners.”

uvLayer hints at future of online video management

You scour YouTube and Truveo for videos of interest. But your collection is nothing more than disconnected bookmarks. Along comes uvLayer, a new web application that makes it easier to discover, watch, collect, and share videos. The product is in beta but my first experience with it suggests that these guys are on to something. Here’s what you need to know:
